What it is

Why Indian expats need this cover?

Who it is for

Anyone who wants financial protection if an accident causes a permanent injury & parents who want cover for active children

What it protects

Your income and savings after a serious accident, through a lump sum, an optional monthly pension, and help with hospital and recovery costs

Why it matters

Statutory accident cover only applies at work and on the commute, while most accidents happen in your free time

Why it matters

Protected at work. What about the rest of your life?

In Germany, your employer's accident cover (gesetzliche Unfallversicherung) stops the moment your free time begins. Yet, most accidents happen at home, doing sports, or travelling. Get full 24/7 protection, fully in English.

24/7 worldwide

Private accident cover applies around the clock and anywhere, including holidays and trips home to India, not only during working hours in Germany.

Protect your savings

Because it focuses specifically on injuries rather than general illnesses, you get a six-figure financial backup for just a small monthly amount.

01

Work is only one part of life

Cycling, sports, travel, and everyday activities are where many accidents happen.

02

Health insurance has a limit

German health insurance pays your hospital bills, but it won't replace a lost tech salary, fund lifestyle adaptations, or protect your savings while you recover.

03

Your cover determines your payout

The cover sum, progression, and Gliedertaxe decide how much support you receive after an accident.

What's covered

The benefits that protect you after an accident

The core of every policy is a lump sum for permanent injury, and a range of useful benefits can be added around it to fit your life and your family. Here is what sits inside a typical policy and what we usually recommend adding.

Permanent disability lump sum (Invaliditätsleistung)

The core benefit. If an accident leaves you with a lasting impairment, you receive a one-off payment based on your cover sum and the degree of disability, scaled up by your progression.

Progression that multiplies severe claims

With progression a serious injury pays far more than the base sum, often up to 350 or 500 percent, so the cover is strongest exactly when the injury is most life-changing.

Monthly accident pension (Unfallrente)

For severe disability above a set threshold you can add a lifelong monthly payment, which helps replace income and cover the cost of ongoing care.

Hospital daily allowance and recovery benefit

Optional daily payments while you are in hospital (Krankenhaustagegeld) and during recovery at home (Genesungsgeld) help with the extra costs and lost income around a stay.

Bone fractures, rehab, and rescue costs

Many tariffs add fixed payments for fractures, the cost of rehabilitation, and search, rescue, or recovery costs after an accident in the mountains or abroad.

Cosmetic and dental surgery after an accident

If an accident leaves scarring or damage, the policy covers cosmetic and dental surgery to restore your appearance, which standard health cover often will not pay for.

Cover for your children and family

Children's accident cover is inexpensive and important, because statutory cover only applies at school or kindergarten, not at home or in their free time, where children are most active.

Health events that count as accidents

Better tariffs widen the accident definition to include events like a heart attack or a stroke that causes an accident, along with poisoning and certain infections, so more situations qualify as a claim.

Worldwide, around the clock

The cover is not limited to Germany or to working hours, so an accident on holiday or on a visit home to India is treated the same as one at home.

The payout for a partial injury follows the Gliedertaxe, the table that sets what each body part is worth as a share of your cover sum. We compare these tables across insurers, because two policies with the same cover sum can pay very differently.

€525.000

This is €150.000 of cover scaled by 350% progression, the payout for a total permanent disability. A partial injury pays a share of this, set by the Gliedertaxe.

Gliedertaxe

How the Gliedertaxe turns an injury into a payout

Most accident claims are not for total disability. The Gliedertaxe is the table in your policy that sets what each body part is worth as a percentage of your cover sum, so the lasting loss of a hand pays a fixed share rather than the full amount. Two policies can carry the same cover sum and still pay very differently, because their tables differ, and a stronger table is one of the main reasons we recommend one tariff over another.

These are illustrative figures for a complete loss or loss of function of the body part, and the exact table varies by insurer and tariff. The base payout is your cover sum times that share, and the progression column applies a representative 350% curve that lifts only the more serious degrees of invalidity. We compare the real tables and progression models for you before you choose.

Before you sign

No surprises when you need it

Accident cover is affordable and genuinely useful, and whether a claim pays what you expect comes down to the cover sum, the progression, and the Gliedertaxe. We go through these with you before you decide.

Set the cover sum high enough

Because a serious injury pays as a share of your cover sum, a base figure of only one or two times your annual income often leaves too little for a life-changing impairment, so we size it to what a real adaptation would cost.

Progression is where the value sits

A policy without progression pays the same rate whether the injury is minor or severe, so we choose tariffs with 350 or 500 percent progression, which pay far more on the most serious claims.

Read the Gliedertaxe, not just the headline

The Gliedertaxe sets what each body part is worth as a percentage of the cover sum, so two policies with the same cover sum can pay very differently, and we compare the actual tables rather than the marketing number.

Mind the exclusions and the waiting period

Some causes are excluded, an accident pension usually pays only above a set degree of disability, and the impairment is assessed after a set period, so we explain what is and is not covered before you sign.

Why NEOdirect

We put your interests first and fight your claims in German

Accident cover looks similar from one insurer to the next, and the real differences sit in the Gliedertaxe, the progression, and the exclusions. Here is what working with us actually gives you.

We set a cover sum that would actually help

We size the cover to your income, your family, and what a real adaptation would cost, so a severe injury pays a sum that genuinely supports you.

Progression and Gliedertaxe matched to real risk

We choose strong progression and compare the Gliedertaxe across insurers, so the most serious injuries pay far more than a basic policy would.

Honest about what fits

If disability insurance or a leaner accident tariff suits you better, we say so plainly, even when it earns us less.

In your corner on claims

If an insurer ever questions a claim, we take it on in German and argue your case, so a serious accident does not also become a fight over the payout.

German insurers we work with

We are a broker (Versicherungsmakler), so we are not tied to any single insurer and earn the same regardless of which one you choose.

FAQ

Accident insurance explained for Indian expats

No, it is optional. Employees have statutory accident cover for work and the commute, and a private accident policy is the common way to extend that protection to the rest of your life, where most accidents happen.
