What health questions do I need to answer for BU?+
BU applications require detailed health disclosures — typically covering the last 5–10 years. You'll need to report doctor visits, diagnoses, therapies, medications, and hospital stays. It's critical to answer honestly and completely, as incorrect information can void your contract. We review every question with you and help you gather the necessary medical records.
What factors determine my BU premium?+
Your premium depends on four main factors: your age (younger = cheaper), your profession (office jobs are lower risk than manual labor), your health status (pre-existing conditions may increase costs), and the coverage amount and duration. An IT professional in their late 20s can typically get excellent BU coverage for €40–60/month.
How is BU different from Unfallversicherung (accident insurance)?+
Unfallversicherung pays a one-time lump sum only for accidents. BU pays a monthly income replacement for ANY cause — including illness, mental health issues, back problems, and cancer. About 90% of disabilities are caused by illness, not accidents. BU is the far more comprehensive protection, but both insurances complement each other well.
Can I get BU if I have pre-existing conditions?+
It depends on the condition. Minor issues like seasonal allergies rarely affect your application. More significant conditions (back problems, mental health history, chronic diseases) may lead to exclusions, surcharges, or rejection. This is exactly why working with an independent broker matters — we know which insurers are lenient on specific conditions and can make anonymous pre-inquiries to protect your record.
What happens if I leave Germany — does BU still pay?+
Yes. BU insurance is worldwide valid. If you return to India, move to the US, or relocate anywhere else, your BU contract remains in force and pays your benefit if you become unable to work. This is a major advantage for expats who may not stay in Germany permanently. Your income protection follows you wherever you go.
